If you plan on leaving the States to go live in Germany than I would say stick to German, if you plan to live in a heavily hispanic populated area than of course Spanish would be the better choice. It is true that immigrants regardless of where they come from should learn English, but that is very unrealistic considering immigrants usually end up in communities with large numbers of immigrants from the same country.
